Pittsburgh Balboa Weekend with Brenda & Tony

October 27 - 29, 2006

Brenda Collins Krstanovic
Brenda has an extensive dance background; she’s been a choreographer, performer, competitor, and coach. Brenda has spent a great deal of time this year focusing on West Coast Swing, Balboa, Argentine Tango, and NY Mambo. She is working with world famous coaches Barry Douglas, Sylvia Sykes, Duplessy Walker, and Andrew Burt.

In her home town of Portland she both teaches regularly and has been instrumental in bringing in national level Balboa instructors.

Tony Husted
Tony discovered his passion for dance in 1997 in college when he joined a Folk Dance troupe, the Mayfest Dancers at Pacific Lutheran University.  He discovered Swing Dancing through this group and has been actively involved ever since.  From 1998 to 2000 you could find Tony driving from Tacoma, hence his nickname, Tacoma Tony, to Seattle four or five nights a week to social dance.  He has competed, placed and judged at the Pacific Northwest Lindy Hop Championships for several years. He has also competed and placed at national competitions including Monsters of Swing and the American Lindy Hop Championships.

A love for vintage swing music has continually kept his dancing rooted in American Vernacular Jazz Dance and kept his busy DJing at venues like the Century Ballroom in Seattle.  He has performed with performance troupes including the Rain City Rugcutters, and Enzian Schuplattler a Seattle based traditional Tirolean/Bavarian performance group. His love for dance led to the opportunity to teach Ballroom dance for a year and later to be the Executive Director of the Orion Ballroom in Kirkland, Washington.  Traveling to dance at workshops, camps and exchanges including most recently being an in-class instructor at the Balboa Rendezvous in San Diego have kept Tony tuned into the Lindy Hop and Balboa scenes around the country.
