Vintage
Blues & Slow Lindy
Don't sit out when the tempos get slow! In this six-week series,
we will explore a variety of vintage slow dancing styles, from
Slow Lindy to Harlem Ballrooming, Slow Drag, Tango Blues, and
much more. Not just a modern swing dance trend, vintage blues
dances actually pre-date Lindy Hop, many evolving in the late
19th century at the same time that jazz was being born. These
styles were danced across America all the way through to the
1940s, in intimate settings like the jook joints of the rural
American South and house rent parties in the urban North, as
well as ballrooms and dancehalls alongside Lindy Hop and other
swing dances. Ranging from smooth and relaxed, to passionate
and dramatic, and danced in a variety of partner positions,
these different styles of slow dancing offer a myriad of ways
to explore blues and slow swing music. These dances are all
characterised by slow movement, musicality and a strong partnered
connection, so you will find these techniques useful for all
styles of blues dance and Lindy Hop too!
No blues dance experience is needed to take this class.
